Exploring Sustainable Coffee Farming Practices at Fairview Coffee Estate in Kiambu, Kenya

Fairview Coffee Estate is a family farm located in Kiambu County, Kenya. It is part of the Kahawa Bora Coffee Farmer's Co-operative, and a key focus of Fairview is to encourage and support small-scale coffee growing in the surrounding areas.

As a result, the factory is the nearest safe haven for farmers who are bypassing many other factories. For those who are coming from far away and without a mode of transport, the factory offers the facility of transport so that the cherries are delivered rapidly, ensuring the best quality in terms of freshness and not losing the cherries' content.

Currently, there are 2,473 individual members (1,426 men and 1,047 women), plus the many small-scale farmers who are also delivering their coffee cherry lots. In addition, the central placement of the factory prevents the farmers from being lured into selling to "fixers". Therefore, Fairview ensures that animals and crops are well looked after.
